Fawlty Towers Night away 3 years ago

Had a night away last night with David to recharge our batteries, booked a room at the pub of the year 2016, 6 miles outside Ripon, also booked a meal…… it was like Fawlty Towers.

We arrived at 4:30 yesterday afternoon, David took the dogs for a walk, and I went to check in with the small case. The pub was locked. I phoned the pub and a grumpy man answered, ‘what do you want?’…. ‘We are booked in for tonight’ I responded.

‘We don’t have you in for tonight, did you book on line?’ I am sat outside the pub on a freezing cold wooden bench – -2c
‘I booked on the phone with a lady, who also confirmed I could bring the dogs’. …. ‘No nothing in the diary’.

‘Oh, just a minute – she has scribbled it here, she didn’t put it in the diary, I’ll come and let you in,’

David arrives back and we walk in to an empty pub and I fill a card in with our details. ‘We also have a meal booked for 8 pm’, I said….. ‘Not in diary’, he says!! Good grief.

‘We will be shutting the pub at 9:30, won’t be anyone in, always quiet on a Monday night at this time of year.’ he said with great joy.

‘I see there is a pub across the road, we will go across there after our meal,’ I said.

‘I own that too, it isn’t open Mondays and Tuesdays, this time of year!!’

We did have a lovely meal, went to bed at 9:30 – just about to go on Trip Advisor and reduce some of his 5 stars!!
