Nearly a week ago I bought a ‘bargain’ on Gumtree for £34, from someone living in Huddersfield. Great, in my mind I would pick it up when working over there, no issues, easy peasy…. WRONG.
The lady was lovely, and we have been texting backward and forward for a few days trying to find a suitable time. Tonight was the night I was picking it up, she had to go out, but would leave it for me well wrapped and would I put the money through the letterbox.
I finished my home visit at Mirfield, set up my sat nav and set off to her house. My giddy aunt, I must have gone up every windy country road between Mirfield and the other side of Huddersfield, pitch black, no lights and it was raining and windy to boot.
Arrived 40 minutes later – I kid you not, it was that far. Up a side street, with a row of houses running off at either side. I wanted number 8…. fat chance!
Got out of my car, nearly got blown over and it was raining like mad, I had my trusty torch and set off from where the sat.nav had said I had arrived. No number 8. I walked up and down the chuffing road, got very pally with two residents trying to help me. Then a lovely young man (another resident) told me that the houses go off at an angle and they were all the same street, not different streets… very complicated.
I eventually found number 8!! Hallelujah…walked around with the torch in their yard, looking under things, behind things – nothing. I text the lady; she said I was at her back door and she had left it at the front… I thought it was back to back.
As I am leaving the yard, my feet felt to be floating on a cushion, very soft… shone my torch down and they were 3 inches thick in dog dirt. Shone torch in yard and I think I had walked through every piece of dog dirt there was.
Nothing to wipe it off on so trailed the stuff to the end of the road, turned left, left again and was now at the front of the house. Found said parcel and posted money through door. Got back to car – cold, wet through and stinking of dog dirt.
Found some wipes in boot of car, the shoes were that bad I got it all over my hands – no bag to put the shoes in, but at least I had a spare pair in the boot.
Called at McDonald’s on my way home for a McChicken sandwich meal and a McFlurry – and I did remember to wash my hands.
